Edmondson, A. C. (2012, April). Teamwork On the Fly. Harvard Business Review, 72-80.

Summary

This article discusses the idea of teaming. What it boils down to is gathering together experts to in temporary groups to solve problems. This concept is useful for companies that are looking to do something that hasn’t been done before where a traditional team isn’t a practical option. Teaming is flexible and can bring together people from remote locations and different disciplines when needed to solve problems. Using principles of project management and team leadership, will enable teaming to be successful and get work done while figuring out how to do it better.

Experience

I am familiar with teaming as a concept. I haven’t seen it much in practice. Most of the teams I work with are together for a long time and don’t often bring in people from the outside to help solve problems. Reading through this article, I can see the benefits of applying this approach and have a desire to experiment with it in my role.

KEYWORDS: Teaming, flexibility, temporary, speaking up, experimenting, reflecting, listening, integrating
